The time has finally come to actually chip away the big piles of wood collected!
Watching out for our feathery friends
One of our members rightly pointed out that nesting birds could be a concern at this time of year and so contacted the RSPB. The RSPB advised that as long as we do a nest check then we’re good to chip! We’ll do our best to keep the chippers on the periphery so that the sound pollution is minimised.
Because insects and small mammals will be making these piles their home we need to crack on ASAP!
The Chippers
Nick has managed to secure not only a smaller chipper from Jewsons, but an additional big log chipper from a tree surgeon contact meaning with enough volunteers we should easily be able to process all of those piles!
The plan will be
Friday 2nd – Nest check the area
Saturday 11am – Chip smaller bits and adjust the paths around seedlings that have appeared
Sunday 9am – Chip the bigger stuff
Depending on how many people we have we can also lay out some of the chip. If anyone local to the Crescent has a wheelbarrow to bring down that could help speed things up!
Looking for lots of volunteers this weekend, especially the Sunday so would be great to see you there!
Is anyone conviniently located in the Crescent able to house the big chipper(s) in their garden over the weekend?
What to bring
Marie will be bringing some tarps, a wheelbarrow and a shovel.
We will be looking for more
- shovels
- wheelbarrows
- loppers
- secateurs
- snacks and drinks to keep you going!
