Background
Skelmorlie Environment Trust has submitted an application for National Lottery Funding on 7th May 2024 with the aim of establishing a wellbeing festival in the village, with the inaugural event pencilled in for August/September 2024.
Subject to successful funding the Festival will look to involve as many of the Skelmorlie residents as possible to join in the range of health, wellbeing and nature connection events that will run.
What is the festival?
Focusing on health and connecting with nature, 2024 will see the Festival launch with a programme of sessions over a week in August 2024 culminating in a number of events taking place on a weekend day. Upon review and success of the 2024 event, funding would also cover the running of an event in 2025.
Who will run the festival?
The Festival will be designed by the local community; for the local community, seeking to involve local community groups such as scouts, youth group, school, sports clubs, library, arts and crafts groups, etc and involving experts in a range of disciplines such as yoga, meditation, foraging, woodwork, bird watching, etc.
What does the Festival hope to achieve?
The Festival will look to align with North Ayrshire Council locality priorities; which are designed by the local communities – increasing local opportunities; wellbeing; social inclusion and skills development.
The aims include:
- Spark curiosity and desire to take up new activities that positively impact on health and wellbeing.
- Bring the community together to socialise, participate and have fun in a programme that has something for everyone.
- Drive the uptake and use of local amenities and activities that can support health, wellbeing and nature connection.
- Enable the community to learn about new activities and develop new skills.
- Raise awareness of environmental issues and consider how everyday actions relate to nature.
How to get involved
We are just in the early stages of consulting with local groups and the wider community to help shape the event. We’d like to get any groups that offer health, wellbeing and nature connection activities to the local community to ensure that all are involved in shaping the programme of events and getting involved in the Festival.
There will be an initial planning event set up in May 2024. The date, time and venue to be confirmed.
