Since the last post, just over a week ago, there have been many conversations in anticipation of the first Skelmorlie Wellbeing Festival taking place in August/September 2024. This will be dependent on funding, but it’s necessary to plan so that we can act quickly upon funding.
Skelmorlie Nature & Wellbeing Festival Planning Meeting
We had an initial planning meeting for the event, where all members of Skelmorlie Environment Trust were invited to attend. We had many great ideas to shape a nature connection and well-being event.
Contact With Activity Providers
Many potential providers have been engaged to consider activities they could offer, availability and willingness to participate. We’ve started contacting local community groups and activity providers to gauge their interest in taking part. So far, everyone has been extremely positive, which has really flamed our enthusiasm to make this a great Festival for the village community.
Flavour of the type of events
We are looking at the following types of workshops and sessions: Foraging, nature identification, nature photography and art, bushcraft, meditation, yoga, wild swimming, drumming, nature crafts, breathwork, bat walk, den making, tai chi, sound baths, fairy glen, forest bathing, breathwork, belly dancing, and a range of sports and coaching sessions.
Groups we have contacted
We’ve reached out to groups such as: Nature Unlimited, Wildwood Bushcraft, 9 Waves Tai Chi, Wild Wood Festival, Scottish Wildlife Trust – Ayrshire, RSPB Group – Ayrshire, Woodland Wakeup, Green Tangerine, Movement in Thyme, Drum for Life, Little Foragers Kitchen, Surfers against Sewage, as well as many individuals that provide nature and wellness activities.
We’re getting lots of interest so far and if we can get the funding, it promises to be quite an exciting event.
Get Involved
We’re keen to work with as many groups and residents within Skelmorlie as possible in getting ideas, planning and running the event itself, so if you’d like to be involved please do get in touch.
Open Session For Community Groups
We are going to hold an open session for community organisations to attend to find out more about the event. It’s scheduled for Tuesday 28th May at Skelmorlie Tennis Club. We’ll be tying to reach as many community groups as possible to get them along, if you are involved in a community club and would like to be included get in touch!
Online Session For Activity Providers
An online session will also be run for activity providers from outside the local community, which will take place on Wednesday 29th May. This should help us firm up initial expressions of interest into a stronger sign up to participate.
